Fahim Akhter is a short story writer and a columnist in Urdu. By Profession he is a registered Social Worker in UK and he works for Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability London.

He was born in 1966 in Calcutta. He has 9 brothers and sisters. He married to Huma Syed an IT professional and he has a daughter Zara Fahim. His father Sufi Jamil Akhter was a Sufi follower. He was graduated from Maulana Azad College Calcutta in 1988 and completed M.A in 1991 from University of Calcutta. In 2005 London Borough of Merton sponsored Fahim Akhter to complete the Diploma in Social Work training to become a qualified Social Worker.
He was elected General Secretary of Maulana Azad College Calcutta in 1987 before he was also elected Cultural Secretary of MAC Student’s Union and organised College’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.
Fahim Akhter moved to UK in 1993 after he got an opportunity to work in Social Services Department. Since then he has been working as registered Social Worker in Britain. He worked in various project and clients such as homeless, dementia, youth offending, adoption & fostering, elderly and brain injury.
Fahim Akhter won the Civic Award from London Borough of Merton in 2011 for community contribution. He was invited by the Her majesty the Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 for Diamond Jubilee celebration and was introduced to her.
Fahim Akhter first short stories collection Aek Gurezan Lamha was published in 2014 and launched at Nehru Culture Centre, the cultural wing of High Commission of India in 2014. He has been writing every Sunday a regular column in Akhbar-e- Mashriq Calcutta, Roznama Dunya Pakistan and Karwan Norway since 2013 with the name of London ki Diary.
Fahim Akhter attended World Urdu Conference in 2015 at Istanbul University. He also attended another World Urdu Conference in Delhi organised by The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) in 2017.
His name is included in Asian Who’s Who magazine. He was the first elected chair of British Muslim Association of Merton in thirty years. He was captain of St. Luke’s Cricket Club Wimbledon and he was also Chair of Ali Cricket Club London which played in Surrey league. He was vice chair of Wimbledon Labour party. He was elected general secretary of Anjuma Farogh-e-Urdu London in 2006 and 2008. Under his secretary ship he organised two International seminars, Mushaira and book launch.
Fahim Akhter is a Patron of Sufi Jamil Akhter Literary Society Calcutta and Alhamd Educational Organisation Calcutta. In 2007 Fahim Akhter established Sufi Jamil Akhter Literary Society in Calcutta to promote Urdu language as well as to developed education system. The society has also been working with other organisations to promote Urdu language as well as sponsoring cultural and education development. SJALS also started Sufi Jamil Akhter Memorial Award for literally achievement which has been received by prominent Urdu writers Shamsur Rahman Farooqi, Mujtaba Hussain, Malikzada Manzoor Ahmad, Ahmad Saeed Maliahbadi, Alqama Shibli, Anis Rafi, Aziz Burney and Dr Halil Toker.
His famous thought is “change your habit otherwise habit will change you”.
